hair flairs with mackenzie
for over a year now, mackenzie has been bugging me to get her hair dyed with one of those funky hair colors.  about a year and a half ago, i put some subtle purple in my hair (it must have been a i'm-turning-30 crisis) and ever since she has wanted some too.  i just didn't feel comfortable putting it in because i know from experience what kind of damage chemicals and dyes do to your hair.  so, of course i had to deal with lots of arguing and pouting until recently.

a couple of weeks ago, i received hair flairs pro hair tinsel to try out. mackenzie was so excited and i knew that this would be a perfect replacement for those hair dyes i was so reluctant to use.

at first i was a little skeptical because they looked complicated and i wasn't sure whether or not they would actually stay in the hair. after watching a video on how to insert them into the hair, i felt more confident about putting them in, but i was still not sure if they would stay.

i tried them on mackenzie first, of course. picture day at school was coming up and she wanted to be sure that she had some of these in her hair for her picture.  i received a package of blue and a package of gold, and she chose the blue to match her outfit that she had chosen for picture day.

the package comes with long strands that can be cut according to how many you need.

putting them in was so simple. check out this instructional video to see just how hair flairs work.

mackenzie is so incredibly tender headed, so she did complain that it hurt as i tightened them when putting them in, but i also put them in phoenix's and tyler's hair and they said nothing about it hurting.

the packaging states that the pro hair tinsel will stay in the hair for about 2-6 weeks.  so far, it has been over a week and they are still in.  a couple of the first few have loosened up in mackenzie's hair only because i used more hair than suggested.

the packaging suggested to only use about 1-2 strands of hair. i didn't think that it would hold with so little hair, but it actually works best with the recommended amount.

  • safer than hair dye - adds a temporary hair color without the harmful chemicals.
  • less expensive than a trip to the salon - each set of pro hair tinsel is only $10-$12, depending on the number of strands you choose. the set comes with enough hair tinsel to add numerous amounts of color to hair.  i was able to add color to all three of my girl's hair and there is still enough left to do at least 5 or 6 more people (maybe more depending on how much you add to each person's hair).
  • great for proms, cheerleading, formal dances, costumes, or any other special occasion.
  • washable - you can wash your hair as you normally would, although i don't recommend any rough scrubbing.
  • heat friendly - you can blow dry and use a flat iron with no damage to the pro hair tinsel
  • 18 different colors to chose from
  • great for every day wear or even for adding something extra to a costume
  • safe and non-toxic, made from 100% polyester
i was pleased to see pro hair tinsel last the week it has been so far and every day after today will just be a cherry on top. the only real thing that would be considered a downfall of this product is that it is a little difficult to put in your own hair. it also may hurt a little when putting them in and your head may be slightly sore the next day. other than that, i would definitely recommend these to anyone looking to add a little bit of color and sparkle to their hair.
